Reflections by
Bishop Jon Hansen, CSsR,
Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith

Bishop Hansen invites us, as taught to him, and modelled for him, by the Northern peoples he serves, to see creation not simply as a backdrop to our lives, but as a gift entrusted to our care.

Drawing on the eco-theological teachings of the late Pope Francis from his two encyclicals, Laudato Si’ (2015), and Laudate Deum (2023), Bishop Jon Hansen CSsR reminds us that caring for our common home is deeply connected to our faith and to our responsibility for one another.

Laudato Si’ & Laudate Deum

Bishop Hansen turns to Mary, Our Mother of Perpetual Help, asking her to guide us in responding to the challenges facing creation. In his words: “Help us to be caretakers of the land, defenders of creation, and servants of one another.”
