Vocations

The Call of God
God has created us in His own image and planted a part of himself in our inner most soul.  That tiny part yearns to be united with God but often like Francis Thompson we run, run, while God’s love hounds us.  If we can let go of our fears, and surrender, we discover a genuine purpose and meaning in our lives.  As we long for our beloved we discover meaning and purpose in a relationship with God and with one another.

Called to be Witnesses
We are called, we are chosen to be witnesses of the Risen Lord, that’s our vocation.  When you hear the word vocation what comes to your mind?  Many people would say vocation is a calling to be a priest, brother, nun or sister.  While that is true there is a calling that begins with birth.  God calls us to life and calls us to a relationship with Him. This is a fundamental vocation for every human being.

People of God
Not all vocations are as clearly felt.  Many develop through a slow and steady awareness, some feel like an intervention of God calls them like Paul on the road to Damascus and others struggle with God and resist.  As disciples of Jesus and through baptism we all have a call by God to love and be of service to the People of God.  This can take several forms.  Too often we narrow it down to being a priest, brother or sister.  What is important is to be aware that there is a wide range of vocations.
