RedemptoristTV (RTV) began in 2009 as an on-line video-sharing companion site for DevotionsTV in Honour of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (See About DevotionsTV), by then a weekly Canadian national TV broadcast, on Vision TV since 1995, and Salt+LightTV since 2006.
DevotionsTV (DTV) is now celebrating its 30th year and RTV its 15th year.
Both DTV and RTV are ministries of the Redemptorists of Canada. Since 2009, RTV has attracted close to 3,000 subscribers and one million viewers.
The goals of DTV and RTV include:
1. To honour Mary, Mother of God.
2. To make better known the devotion to Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, a worldwide Redemptorist ministry for more than 150 years.
3. To make better known the history, charism and current ministries of Canadian and worldwide Redemptorists.
4. To promote Redemptorist principles re vocation in all walks of life, in particular what it means to have a vocation to become a Redemptorist brother or priest.
5. To highlight the spirituality and Church leadership of women through presentations of their homilies and reflections.
6. To highlight the spirituality of young people through their choir singing for the program, under the direction of some of Canada’s top sacred music directors. Also, through their prayer recitals (Prayers of the Faithful, Prayer to Mary, Our Mother of Perpetual Help) for the program and through their reflections on Mary and how her example and modeling the teachings of Jesus helps young people through everyday problems. Suggestions for the program from young people always welcome.
7. To create a program, essentially pastoral and teaching, in the service of people at a wide range of spiritual engagement that includes men and women of all ages, cultural, educational backgrounds, economic and professional status.
Every DTV national TV broadcast is replicated on the RTV site and includes songs and prayers in honor of Mary, reflections on Mary in everyday life, and homilies from well-known North American Redemptorist preachers. RTV is also DTV’s archive, offering an opportunity for viewers to explore 100s of works from their favorite homilists recorded for DTV over the years.
While always in dedication to Mary, Mother of God, DTV’s central focus, homilies have ranged wide in subject matter and provide viewers with up-to-date insights into post-Vatican II Church, the Church of the North, Suffering Ukraine’s Love of Mary, Black Lives Matter, Pope Francis’ legacy of mercy-centered theology and all aspects of modern life through the lens of Gospel teachings.
Since 2016, DTV viewers can watch the entire weekly DevotionsTV program on RTV. See this week’s program.
Across Canada and around the world, Catholic parishes offer in-person Perpetual Help Devotions. Both DTV and RTV welcome parishioners and other viewers as an extension of these weekly and annual parish-based celebrations of Mary.
In Canada, the centre of Perpetual Help Devotions is the Redemptorist parish, St. Patrick’s National Perpetual Help Shrine Parish, which offers weekly Wednesday Devotions consisting of five Liturgies throughout the day in honor of Mary. See St. Patrick’s Shrine Parish.
Once a year, in late June (Feast Day of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is June 27) St. Patrick’s brings together thousands of devotees from several parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto, and beyond, to celebrate the annual Triduum, three days of song, prayer and reflections centered on Mary and her central importance to Catholics.
The Triduum is presided over by outstanding preachers from all parts of the Catholic world, including the US, the Canadian North and Philippines. See Triduum 2025.
Highlights of the annual Triduums are filmed by the RTV production team and featured throughout DTV’s broadcasts on national TV. See 2025 Schedule.
RTV offers free-of-charge a video-sharing service to individuals, parishes, organizations, of all RTV videos, including entire DTV programs, as shown on RTV.
