Fr. Ako Walker, CSsR
Fr. Ako Trevor Walker C.Ss.R is a Redemptorist missionary priest currently serving as Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus/St Patrick in Baltimore, MD. He is also Superior of the Redemptorist Community there and a member of the Baltimore Province’s Extra-Ordinary Provincial Council.
Fr. Ako has been a Redemptorist for the past eleven years and is originally from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Spanish and a Master Degree in Spanish Literature from the University of the West Indies and a Masters in Divinity from Boston College, MA. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Ministry at Barry University, Miami, FL. Before joining the Redemptorists, he taught High School Spanish in his home country.
After his ordination in 2019, Fr. Ako spent two years as Associate Pastor at Immaculate Conception in the Bronx, New York. In 2021, he became the Pastor of Sacred Heart/St Patrick where he shepherds a predominantly Latino migrant Community. Upon his arrival, he continued the community relationships with business and other organizations to assist the Latino community. Following on the work of the previous pastor, he ensured the continuation of the Covid Vaccine clinic which is still operational.
In March 2024, following the collapse of the Franklin Scott Key Bridge in which 6 men lost their lives, Fr. Ako and the parish community provided pastoral support for the grieving families and friends. They organized a prayer service and a candle light procession through the streets, stopping six times and praying specifically for each victim and their families. During this time, Fr. Ako also highlighted the need for greater care and outreach for members of the Hispanic Community, especially those living in precarious socio-economic situations. His pastoral work involves strong advocacy for the community he serves and pastoral outreach for anyone who is in need and comes knocking on the doors of the church irrespective of religion.
