Meet Dr. Robin Williams

Sacred music at St Patrick’s Redemptorist Parish, downtown Toronto, (home of the Shrine for Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help) is directed by Dr. Robin Williams, parish music and liturgical director. Music at St Patrick’s exemplifies the rich tradition of Roman Catholic liturgical music, highlighting Gregorian Chant and other sacred music,  from ancient to modern and mirroring the decrees of the Second Vatican Council.

Dr. Williams, organist, choral conductor, and liturgist, was trained at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music (Rome) and Catholic University of America (Washington, DC). Dr. Williams is the parish’s director of Divine Worship and also directs the parish Schola Cantorum, oversees the Guiding Choir, and is the parish organist.

The Schola Cantorum and the Guiding Choir are entirely volunteer ensembles featured at the 11 o’clock Mass on Sunday.

Dr. Williams conducts the choir Sunday morning at 11 o’clock and serves as parish organist. His research has focused on the correct application of pre-conciliar music in modern liturgy.  Dr. Williams teaches music to students at St. Mary’s Catholic Academy, Toronto.

There is also an extension of the Schola Cantorum at the 5 o’clock Mass on Sunday, conducted by choral conductor and baritone Mark Huang, who has served the parish music ministry for 30 years. Mr. Huang is a recently retired music teacher at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts.
